Our Approach

Frankincense wadi

Bridging conservation, communities, and commerce.

We sit at the intersection of different worlds: conservationists and scientists who want to protect trees; harvesters and their communities who want to ensure fair livelihoods and prosperity for their families; and international companies who want to de-risk their supply chains and ensure they have a profitable business.

Our work aims to bring these worlds together, to acknowledge all of these concerns as legitimate and important and to find solutions that work for everyone. By doing so, we work to create scalable approaches that truly can drive positive impacts for everyone in the value chain.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Changing the standard for wild botanicals.

The FairSource Standard defines how we approach sourcing at FairSource. It reflects our commitment to building wild-botanical supply chains that work across scientific rigor, local producer landscapes, and commercial realities, turning complexity into systems that are practical, credible, and designed to last.

Transparent Traceability

We build supply chains where every lot is traceable from harvest to finished product, with origin data, documented payments, ecological observations, and laboratory testing embedded into the system.

Science in Practice

We ground our work in decades of field experience and peer-reviewed research, applying scientific insight directly to sourcing decisions, monitoring, and system design.

Producer-Led Partnerships

We work directly with landowners and harvesters to build long-term, accountable sourcing relationships that ensure fair, timely, and transparent payments and respect the rights and dignity of workers.

Scalable, Replicable Sourcing Systems

We design sourcing systems to balance scientific rigor, local realities, and commercial viability, creating models that can be replicated across regions and sustained over the long term.

Continuous Improvement

We continuously adapt our sourcing systems as new data emerges, conditions change, and partners provide feedback, documenting gaps and working to close them over time.

Regeneration

We aim to go beyond maintaining the status quo. Our work is designed to deliver measurable improvements for both people and plants, creating net-positive outcomes across supply chains and landscapes.
